AWARDS 2013
A note from Senior Management
Firstly, it was great to see some of you 2 weeks ago at the Awards Night, and we also had a good time last night at the follow-up when we were able to give Greg, Mash and Rob their awards too*. Thank you to those who could come. Thank you too to all of you; you made last season enjoyable and successful with our strange mix of being competitive but ensuring everyone has go, much to the confusion of the opposition. And finally on the theme of thank-yous, I greatly enjoyed the 2 splendid bottles of wine you kindly gave me for my efforts as organiser, fixture secretary and kit man. Cheers!
As I used to say at work, for the sake of good order I thought I'd summarize where we have got to: In 2013, we played 16 matches and 2 pairs matches (there were also 2 rained off and 1 that went unrecorded in our score-book as both Senior and Junior management were away!). Of the 16, we won 10 and tied 1. Captain's win/played ratios were Tom 7/10, Zach 0/2, David 1/2, and Senior Management 2/2. In total we had 30 players on the books, and Sardar played most games (17) with Stephen coming next (14), and a whole bunch of us on 13.
The highlight of the season must be The Tour, and we are greatly indebted to Stephen and Graeme for organising it. It was great fun, and we won our first ever trophy - a tin of beans. Stuck in the memory is the moment Sardar hurdled a fence to retrieve the ball from a neighbouring field, and totally disappeared from view as he landed in an overgrown ditch. Not that that slowed him down! And David's comment "I don't recognise Andy without his shorts on". And somehow we managed to score 19 in the last over of a match to tie the game.
Financially 2013 went well in spite of rising pitch costs, especially at Chiswick. We couldn't have done without theidiosyncratic application of the new fines regime (see the link below) which grows more complicated every time we meet. We would have made a £65 loss on a turnover of £1,000 without it. But fines totaled £129.50, meaning that with provision for some bat repairs and cash coming in from bits and pieces (e.g., £14.36 surplus from the kitty last night!), we are in good shape for next season. We seem to have lost a pair of batting gloves, so if you have an reasonable old pair for the kit bag, that'd be great.
Finally on the matter of next season, we are thinking of playing more at Regents Park as its a bit cheaper, and the artificial wickets and outfields are not too bad, certainly better than South Park, Fulham. To get bookings at Regents Park we'll need to play on Mondays and Tuesdays, and that seems to be OK with most people. We will have to see what the opposition teams think...
So have a good winter break, don't get injured, and look out for emails about nets that Tom may be organising (Zach's taking a rest before a little Mendelsohn arrives!).
